rattery & mousery
Welcome to Critter Valley a Rattery and mousery established in 2016 and currently run by me.

my first mission for my small rattery/mousery is to breed healthy, intelligent, out going, loving, and unique ratties and mice.
When selecting my does and bucks i plan to pair,i first evaluate their individual temperament.i hand pick each ratty and mice at a young age, socializing them daily.they all have their own personalities(some more outgoing and interested in meeting new people than others, though those that are more shy are still very loving)they are all cuddle bugs once they get to know you. We have one on one time with all of our ratties (not just my personal rats, but also the ones for adoption as well.) They all get socialized daily. All of our adult ratties have litter boxes and they all use them rather than soil their nests and bedding.Second to temperament,i strive for healthy ratties and mice.their lives are already short, but poor breeding can be a factor in shortening the already short lifespans of these sweet fuzzbutts. buying a rats or mice from a small rattery/mousery can eliminate some of the potential health issues that a lot of ratties and mice may face.it is safer then picking up your furry companion from a pet store where you do not get to view the parents and where they are not cared for properly. Most pet stores buy their rats and mice in bulk; sadly the health of those ratties and mice is not usually a big concern. Most are just considered snake food, and are bred by the thousands and even millions just for that. The health of the animals make no difference, they inbreed them repeatedly, do not meet their nutritional needs, and most of the time the animals are kept in poor conditions, packed on top of each other , which can also lead to health issues. The mental health of these rats and mice may also be altered by the poor conditions they are kept in. They have no mental stimulation and are not handled often. They have no way to grow mentally, which is very important because they are such intelligent creatures. All of our ratties and mice have toys, tunnels, tubes, hammocks, friends and interaction with people to help them grow mentally.i start handling them as soon as they are old enough to ensure they are socialized.i give the babies age appropriate, mentally, and physically stimulating toys.i also make my own food mix for both mice and rats .they are also given fresh fruits and veggies almost daily.lastly i look for gorgeous coat color ,markings and coat texture.
