Transporting Rats

you are finally picking up you rats,before picking them up you will need a Travel carriers or a small one-level cages to take home your new buddy.


Safe carrier include:
small pet carrier-there is a lot you can chooses from that are safe for rats.

 

critter keeper- have one that is big enough for one or more rats.

​

small bird carrier-some small bird cage or carriers are okay to use.

 

A small dog/cat carrier – make sure the rat cannot slip through the spacing on the sides as can sometimes happen with young or small female rats.

​

A small translucent storage bin with a secure lid – make sure you provide adequate ventilation by cutting a hole in it and putting mesh wire on it with zip ties.

​

Small pet cardboard carriers – suitable for two small or one large rat – are available at petco or petsmart.

​

cardboard box-a small box is fine as long as it for a short ride and has a few air holes.

​

For longer trips of an hour so you might want to provide fresh produce with a high water content to keep your rat from getting dehydrated and are good for a snack.water bottle are fine but they might get knocked down and get everything wet and so will food with it getting everywhere if knocked over. Some good options on good water content fruits include:apple, cucumber,watermelon, and honeydew,.

NOTE: Most rats get diarrhea due to stress when in the car. This is a normal reaction.
